CEP-171 Propane Tank Compliance
Start Date: March 6, 2014 || Completion Date: June 17, 2014
Asturian Group, Inc. (AGI) was awarded a construction contract, located at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, to upgrade existing above ground propane storage tanks to NFPA 58 compliance. The scope of work included installation of a secondary point of egress in the case of an emergency, installation of emergency shut-off valves, modification of existing piping systems, installation of reinforced concrete bulkheads, and associated NFPA 58 compliance requirements. Modification to the existing tank systems required reclamation of LP gas located in the tank systems, then burning off any residual gas through the burn-off vent system(s). Due to the inherrent danger associated with LP gas systems, special plan(s), procedures, and safety methods were enforced to ensure the protection of employees during the upgrades. Extensive testing and compliance inspections were performed prior to re-establishing and certifying the tanks.
