Ellis Island – Liberty Park
Start Date: July 10, 2014 || Completion Date: October 3, 2014
Ellis Island is often referred as the Gateway to the United States. In 2012, Ellis Island and the surrounding metropolitan area was catastrophically damaged due to Super Storm Sandy. The restoration and rehabilitation of Ellis Island and the adjacent Liberty Island are gradually being performed and receiving some much needed upgrades. Asturian Group Inc. was awarded a Design‐Build contract for the installation of an ADA/ABBAS compliant access point for Park employees who are transported to the Statue of Liberty on a daily basis. The scope of work required the installation of a 45′ gangway to an elevated grating system located on a floating platform (barge). The elevated grating system was fabricated and installed on the barge deck, including handrails, gates, and other barriers. In addition to the gangway and decking, Asturian installed a front bow loader, fendering, and other marine components to protect the barge.
